In the congratulatory letter, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark spoke highly of Chinese government's achievements in the field of poverty reduction and its extraordinary contributions to achieving one of the MDGs--halving the population in extreme poverty by 2015. She wished IPRCC a success in continuously performing its important functions in the future and looked forward to a deeper and closer partnership between UNDP and IPRCC to promote the global sustainable human development.
UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Renata Lok-Dessallien pointed out in her speech that UNDP is so pleased to see our joint endeavor with the Government of China resulting in the IPRCC steadily emerging as a global knowledge hub for reducing poverty. Under the new China-UNDP strategic partnership to strengthen South-South Cooperation, IPRCC will be a key player.
In his speech, LGOP Director Fan Xiaojian pointed out that the establishment of IPRCC showed Chinese government's good wishes and relentless pursuit of promoting global poverty reduction and development. After five years of development, IPRCC has made remarkable achievements, attracted wide attention and won recognition of the international community, and has turned itself into a consulting agency engaged in theoretical research and experience summary in the field of poverty alleviation and development, an important base for training on international poverty reduction, and a significant window for international poverty reduction, view exchange and cooperation as well. He said that LGOP will further strengthen the leadership, support the development of IPRCC and promote the further improvement of its institutional capacity in an effort to contribute to the eradication of poverty in the world.
The participating representatives thought highly of IPRCC's positive role in China's experience-sharing with the international community in the field of poverty alleviation and in promoting South-South Cooperation during the five years since its establishment. They also conducted an in-depth discussion on how IPRCC could play a more significant role in South-South Cooperation in the future.
IPRCC was established in 2005, is a knowledge center for poverty reduction training, high level poverty policy dialogue, and facilitation of international exchange. UNDP helped establish the IPRCC in partnership with LGOP and the Ministry of Commerce. UNDP supported institutional building, knowledge management and partnership strengthening for IPRCC.
