First Ever Chinese Private Enterprise Partnership with UNDP - Jala Group USD 1 Million

21 February 2011, Shanghai China

On 21 February, UNDP China announced that it is joining forces with leading domestic cosmetic company Jala Group, in a landmark partnership aimed at assisting some of China's most vulnerable and impoverished ethnic minority communities.

The launching event, held in Shanghai, was attended by a number of high-profile representatives from both organisations, including Mr. Zheng Chunying, CEO of Jala Group, and Ms. Silvia Morimoto, UNDP China Deputy Country Director. The partnership, which will see Jala Group invest US$1 million over a four-year period, was formalised through the signing of a Cost-Sharing Agreement and was followed by a gala event, where Mr. Chunying and Ms. Morimoto were among several speakers to share their hopes and aspirations for their pioneering new venture.

One of the project's first steps will be to establish several alternative livelihood pilots designed to harness the market potential of ethnic minorities' rich and diverse cultural heritages.
