UNDP China combines its support to policy development at the national level with localised initiatives. By piloting activities on the ground, UNDP can test out new solutions in local realities and feed practical experiences back into overarching policy making.
In addition, taking the development discussion to the provincial level and below lets UNDP bring technical support closer to the ground. By supporting local governments in addressing the issues they face as they face them, UNDP can adapt to different settings and increase its relevance for local decision makers.
With a portfolio of focused projects spanning over different fields, UNDP is well positioned to support China in refocusing on the needs of rural areas and creating a stronger countryside based on balanced analysis and comprehensive responses.
In that process, UNDP puts particular emphasis on highlighting and addressing the needs of particularly vulnerable groups, including migrants, ethnic minorities, landless farmers and the disabled as well as larger categories of vulnerable such as women, children and the elderly.
