
Access to clean and affordable energy services is an integral part of
reducing poverty and achieving the
Millennium Development Goals. However, it has become increasingly apparent that current global energy consumption patterns are unsustainable and present a huge challenge to both sustained economic growth and
poverty reduction around the world. The growing consensus is that without substantive changes in global energy usage, not only will development be severely hampered, but the lifestyles enjoyed by societies worldwide will cease to remain viable.
